More makes and activities than ever

Making automobile history since 1919

The 34th Barcelona International Motor Show will be the most interactive and festive yet, with 44 vehicle makes, four world premieres and forty national ones. From the 9th to the 17th of June, the Montjuïc exhibition centre will host the major automobile fiesta with a multitude of activities for children, young people and adults.

Organised by Fira de Barcelona, the show has the support of the two most important Spanish associations, ANFAC and ANIACAM and is the only one in Spain sanctioned by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles (OICA), the world automobile trade association. The show will reveal four world and around forty national premiers (on the 7th and 8th, press days), which will reflect the latest trends in the industry, which are leaning more and more towards environmentally friendly vehicles, safety and new alternatives such as “low cost” cars.

According to the show’s president, Enrique Lacalle, “almost no organisation in the world has held 34 motor shows, like this one which was created in 1919. It is also one of the best attended shows, with an audience of 1,100,000 personas at the last event held in 2005 and we have more makes than ever: 44 and 250,000 m2”. Lacalle adds “we are also presenting two brand new exhibitions: “Tintín and his cars” and the largest Rolls Royce exhibition ever presented at a motor show. All of this will make Barcelona, once again, the world motor capital”.

Exhibitions and shows
This year’s main attraction will be the exhibition “Tintin and his cars”, included in the official programme of the centenary celebrations of the birth of Hergé, the Belgian creator of the famous reporter’s adventures, in which the vehicles play a very important part. There will also be a spectacular Rolls Royce exhibition, a competition car exhibition; 4x4 track circuits; vehicle and motorcycle test areas; driving simulators; video games; road education tracks and a tuning and car audio contest, among other activities.

Visitors will also be able to participate in a draw “El coche de tus sueños” (Your dream car) in which the winner will be able to choose the car he or she most liked at the show (up to a maximum value of 60,000 euros). There will also be educational activities such as the vehicle assembly line showing part of the car manufacturing process.

Professional sessions
There will also be a full programme of professional activities such as the 6th International Motor Show Awards, which reward the best innovations in the industry. Another session will deal with the balance of licence points in Spain, the first to be held in the country since this system came into force in June 2006, with the participation of the Director General of Traffic, Pere Navarro (11th of June).

On the 8th of June, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and the ANFAC association are organising the Industrial Observatory of the Vehicle and Truck Manufacturing Sector, as well as a session on navigation systems (12th of June). The show will also provide the setting for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Asociación Nacional de Vendedores de Vehículos a Motor, Reparación y Recambios, Ganvam.

Night of the Automobile
On the 7th and 8th of June, the Barcelona International Motor Show is holding two press and trade days during which leading company executives will present their latest products.  The second day (8th of June) will close with the Night of the Automobile, during which personalities from the worlds of politics, business and society will be able to attend a premier of the Show.
