Fira de Barcelona will feature in the organisation of the 3GSM World Congress
The event showcase numerous new products until the 15th of February in Montjuïc
Fira de Barcelona is hosting and co-organising 3GSM World Congress, the largest cutting edge mobile telephony congress and exhibition, which will bring some 1,300 exhibitors together in the Montjuïc exhibition centre and attract around 60,000 visitors to share the latest technology which is presented in this field.
Fira de Barcelona expects this congress, which is being held for the second year running in the Catalan capital, to generate around 150 million euros in the city and its surroundings, well in excess of the 100 million euros achieved during the 2006 event.
On this occasion, Fira de Barcelona is increasing its involvement in the organisation of the event by carrying out the operational functions of the event, with regard to both exhibitors and visitors. The trade fair institution will become GSMA's main supplier, managing over 190,000 square metres occupied by the congress in everything related to stand construction, marquees, village, attention to clients and visitors, as well as catering services and maintenance.
The president of Fira de Barcelona's Management Board, Josep Lluís Bonet, has stated that "the staging of this 3GSM demonstrates that one of the reasons for the success of the institution is its capacity to organise very complex events". He also emphasised the economic contribution and international dimension of the congress, in which over 90 percent of participants come from abroad and one out of every three attendees are executives representing mobile companies.
The director general of Fira de Barcelona, Agustín Cordón, highlighted the institution's satisfaction for the 3GSM World Congress and for the "magnificent levels of cooperation achieved with the GSM Association, which we wish to thank for having not only renewed and reinforced their confidence in Fira de Barcelona, but also for having made our city and our country world technological capitals during these days".
